Earlier today, students from the Stanley G. Falk School attended a Community Giving Ceremony, where they handed off a number of garden products that they had built in partnership with The Foundry makerspace. The exchange took place at the Broadway Community Garden, where the students provided members of Grassroots Gardens with useful accessories that will help gardeners to beautify Buffalo neighborhoods, while providing wholesome produce to residents at the same time.
“We’re always excited to partner with the amazing students at The Foundry and Stanley G. Falk School,” said Justin Baumgardner, Development Director at Grassroots Gardens. “It’s inspiring to see these young makers develop their skills and give back to Buffalo’s green spaces. The tools they are making will directly help our gardeners grow fresh food in our community.”

“There’s nothing quite like the look on a student’s face when they see something they made out in the neighborhood. It completely changes how they view their own work.” added Drew Brotz, FOUNDRYmade Manager. “It’s not just a project, it’s proof that the skills they’ve built in our makerspaces are real and that what they do actually matters to the community.”
Since 2021-2022, FOUNDRYMade – a youth employment and entrepreneurship program – has been providing students with the STEAM skills that they require to enter into the job market. The program is considered a hands-on product fabrication initiative where the students learn to design, fabricate, and sell the products that they have crafted. The Community Giving Ceremony with Grassroots Gardens was one of numerous success stories that have come to pass since the program initially started.
