Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corporation’s infill housing initiative is well underway in Black Rock with new homes under construction on East Street, Thompson Street, Gorton Street and others. 47 new affordable single-family homes are being developed in the Riverside, Black Rock, Ken-Bailey, University Heights, Lower West Side, and Old First Ward neighborhoods.
The $24.5 million housing project is funded jointly through American Rescue Plan dollars from the City and County. All properties will be reserved for income-qualified buyers, with a purchase subsidy to assist families achieve new home-ownership opportunities.
Mayor Scanlon also announced that a second phase of the initiative is already in planning, with an additional 30 homes to be built primarily on Buffalo’s East Side, including in the Masten District.
BENLIC is working with Buffalo Construction Consultants, HHL Architecture, and Champion Homes. The project is a “blended program” with twenty of the proposed homes to be built using modular construction and the remaining twenty-seven to be stick-built homes.
