After nine years operating a food tent, and four years operating a food truck, restaurateurs Terry and Kenwin Chiddick will be opening their first full-fledge restaurant – KT Caribbean Café at 1325 Michigan Avenue.
After numerous fits and starts over the years, this preservation success story is about to embark upon its next chapter. What was originally going to be an urban agricultural hub, will now be an authentic “taste of the Caribbean” restaurant that will cater to the neighborhood.
From savory oxtail and jerk chicken to Trinidadian classics like curry goat and roti, every dish is handcrafted with heritage and heart.
“I sat on the board of PUSH Buffalo for nine years,” Terry told me. “I’ve been a loyal community activist. That’s why Rahwa Ghirmatzion, who was at PUSH when I was there, and is now at CORE, recommended me as an operator at 1325 Michigan Avenue. After receiving a grant from CORE, we have been waiting for three years to see this building refurbished. PUSH was the pass-through organization for the funding.

“We’re so excited to be a part of this community – our ribbon cutting is Friday, and our grand opening is Saturday. We will be open Wednesday through Saturday, serving up real, home cooked food for a neighborhood that has mostly relied on fast food until this point. This café is more than a restaurant – it’s a tribute to our roots (Trinidad and Tobago) and a celebration of the Caribbean spirit.”
