Tracey Wei and Mike Mahoney have relocated their “zero waste” retail shop from Lexington Avenue to Elmwood Avenue, in search of additional exposure. In the process, Elmwood has gained a fabulous shopping experience just in time for the holidays. Along with all of the earth friendly products that I wrote about when they first opened in 2021, the couple has added a number of new products to the mix, including a line of “the world’s comfiest dresses,” according to Tracey, who designs each of the “Parrti” looks.
55% of US consumers are interested in buying sustainable clothing. However, 48% do not know where to find sustainable clothing brands*.
Tracey, who came from the fashion industry, told me that her versatile dresses are meant to “disrupt the category, and blur the lines. They are so comfy. Every look incorporates transformative elements, with zero waste and non-toxic fabrics, using fair wages and no child labor.” The core collection is something that women can feel good about wearing, while looking sensational in both casual and more formal settings.

Other new products that Tracey has sourced include a new zero waste “restock and recipe book” by Maria Watkins – a Western New York-based content creator. The book demonstrates how we can all live a lower waste lifestyle while cooking in the kitchen… especially around the holidays.
In the US, an average of 30%-40% of the food supply is waste.
Other interesting new products include vintage glassware sourced by Roaring Spring Home, and reusable napkins by Jen Stockman Designs (both Buffalo-based businesses). There are tea towels featuring the works of Cassandra Ott as well. One of Cassandra’s flowery murals is located just up the avenue.

Also in time for the holidays are the super cute – and really tasty – bottles of non-alcoholic Phony Negroni. The drink is perfect to have handy for designated drivers, or anyone that is simply sticking to an NA lifestyle. Of course Little Salmon has all of the usual refillable staples at their Refill Station, which equates to a lot fewer plastic containers heading to the landfill.

When purchasing locally made, non-toxic candles by Cottage Bloom Candle Co., or soaps from Milk & Honey (East Aurora), not only are you supporting Little Salmon, you are also supporting numerous local artisans who all care about this planet. Now, that’s something to think about over the holidays, or simply on a day-to-day basis.
