A formerly nondescript building at 1556 Main Street has emerged as a sharp looking contributor to the neighborhood’s ongoing (albeit relatively slowly progressing) renaissance.
It turns out that the building in question is now home to Copper & Cotton Design and Supply, which specializes in home renovations that incorporate “the highest quality materials and fixtures.” This is exciting news for Main Street (near East Ferry) for lots of reasons. Not only did the building go from drab to fab overnight, this type of specialty design center could signal a growing belief that there is limitless potential along this somewhat vanquished section of the Main Street corridor.
A broader look reveals that 1556 Main Street is actually a bit larger than it first appears from the street. It’s also in good company, close to a couple of other development projects that have been completed in previous years. This new project will hopefully demonstrate that even some of the properties that appear to be hopeless, can become contributing factors to the area’s overall growth. There are a number of nearby buildings that are either for sale, possessed by developers that are sitting on them, or owner occupied with owners who have been waiting to see how the street performs from year to year.
Copper & Cotton customers can currently make showroom appointments with the design outfit, entailing sourcing tile, plumbing, lighting, custom furniture, and material swatches. There are a couple of different appointment packages available.
I don’t think that many people could have envisioned a makeover for this building. That said, this development should encourage potential customers to engage with the design business. The owners obviously have excellent taste (including landscaping), and should be commended for believing in this quietly emerging corridor of Main Street.
