“Buffalo…..who knew?” that Buffalo boasts a festival that celebrates the humanities, thought, and creativity, and that it is a coming-together of both cultural and educational institutions across the city?
Newell and Frits discuss, and learn (more) about, the Buffalo Humanities Festival, which is celebrating its 10th year. Podcast guests are festival Executive Director, Christina Milletti, and Director, Elizabeth Otto.
This year’s festival (September 20-21st, 2004) will be held in Buffalo’s “Literary Row” (which extends from the Erie County Public Library to Fitz Books and includes Just Buffalo Literary Center, WNY Book Arts, etc.) and will focus on “Hauntings.”
The events are free and open to the public.
Listen to learn more about this wonderful cultural asset in, and for, our community.
The “Buffalo…..who knew?” podcast is hosted by E. Frits Abell – an entrepreneur, historic preservationist/urbanist, and micro developer. He currently runs materialsIN, manages his properties at Five Points, sits on a few boards, and divides his time among Buffalo, the Hudson Valley, and New York City.

What is the Buffalo Humanities Festival? An annual celebration of ideas, art, and activities featuring talks and panel discussions by scholars, artists, and community activists designed to provoke thought, spur new encounters, and introduce you to new friends in our city.
History, literature, and art are full of figures and stories that, for a variety of reasons, have not made it into mainstream conversations. “Haunting” is a term scholars use to illuminate historical material that is repressed, unresolved, or simply forgotten, but which is still lurking at the margins, waiting to be acknowledged and made present. What happens when we make the margins the center and open the door to new stories and histories?
Visit buffalohumanities.org for further information, and to register for events.
