Lights, Camera, Literacy! Dog Ears Bookstore & Café, a shining gem in Buffalo’s cultural scene, is ready to bring some educational magic to the young minds of the area. Starting from February 6 until May 23, this beloved spot for book enthusiasts and coffee lovers will transform into an after school wonderland for students in grades 3 8. And guess what? It’s absolutely free! Imagine a blend of school and social club that’s simply fabulous!
The program offers a diverse range of activities just like a Broadway show lineup. Tuesdays are all about grades 3 and 4 diving into an exciting book club experience that’s far from boring and more towards exciting! Picture it as a mini version of a literary salon where these young ones won’t just read but truly immerse themselves in the stories. On Wednesdays, it’s reserved for the talented 5th and 6th graders who will become budding Hemingways in the Reader & Writer Workshops. Not only will they devour captivating short stories but also master the art of crafting their own tales. Who knows? The next great American novelist might just be honing their skills right here in Buffalo!
Thursdays take an adventurous turn with sci-fi and STEM projects tailored for the brilliant minds of 7th and 8th graders. Get ready for an exhilarating experience that’s even more thrilling than a ride at a theme park. We’re talking about hands on, minds on experiments that will have you on the edge of your seat! And here’s the best part. There’s also fun homework prep and language based games thrown into the mix, like sprinkles on top of a sundae!

These amazing sessions run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. And are limited to just 20 participants per day. But don’t worry, your child won’t be taught by a robot. The guides for this magical journey are real literacy specialists and certified English Language Arts teachers from New York State.
Parents, listen up. All you need to do is drop off your little stars and let them shine! You can relax in the café, enjoy a delicious latte or treat yourself to a pastry while your child embarks on an educational adventure upstairs. Remember, pre registration is required, so make sure you call the book shop at 823 2665 to secure your child’s spot in this incredible program.
Thanks to the generous support of Erie County Youth Services and South District Councilman Christopher Scanlon, this program is completely free! So mark your calendars and get ready for an exciting chapter in Buffalo’s youth education.
