It’s an interesting time for art festivals in Buffalo. First, the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts (EAFA) announced that it was disbanding. Then Allen West Festival stated that local artists from EAFA were welcome to enlist for their well-established festival. Shortly thereafter, the Elmwood Village Association (EVA) announced that it was running with its own version of EAFA. It was a little bit of a cultural rollercoaster there for a while.
For all of those aforementioned reasons, and a lot more, it’s good to hear that the Allentown Art Festival is raring to go, with business as usual. The 66th annual show Saturday will be held Saturday, June 10 and Sunday June 11, 2023 (11 am to 6 pm). Per usual, upwards of 300 artists and crafts people will be in attendance.
In 2023, visitors to the Allentown Art Festival will find a few new additions to the artistic lineup, including:
- Displays and demonstrations from the Corning Glass Museum
- CEPA Gallery’s photo lab
- A children’s art station from the Burchfield Penney Art Center
- Displays from emerging artists sponsored by the Hunt Gallery and the Allentown Art Festival
- The addition of food trucks
- A new music tent and a welcoming tent for the Visit Buffalo Niagara organization
The Allentown Art Festival is considered a Buffalo “Rite Of Spring.” And as we are all keenly aware, it’s more important than ever to support our art festivals, so that they will continue to thrive for years to come.
