On Saturday June 17, three cornerstone groups will be collaborating on a triptych cultural showcase aimed to inspire people about the untapped potential of the city’s East Side. Adam Mickiewicz Library & Dramatic Circle (AMLDC) will be joining together with Eugene V. Debs Hall and Buffalo Brewing Company to create a three-part roving festival.
AMLDC recently announced its share of the festivities – an inaugural Music Fest, featuring bands Midlife Crisis and Ten Cent Howl. The event will feature Moondoggies food truck (noon – 9pm), and The Cheesy Chick (4-7pm). Doors open at noon with full bar service.
- Midlife Crisis takes the back hall stage from 2-4pm. WNY’s favorite rock and roll party band who describe themselves as “solving issues through music.”
- Ten Cent Howl takes the back hall stage from 6-8pm. Jeff Miers, Buffalo News stated: “Ten Cent Howl in particular managed to marry the influences of bluegrass, rockabilly, primal rock n’ roll and Pogues-like punk-folk with strength and vitality.”
Attendees to the AMLDC Music Fest will get a first-hand look at the newly renovated Polish Library – a highly anticipated addition to the historic gem. Limited “early bird” tours will be available from noon to 1pm.
“Founded in 1895, Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle is the oldest surviving Polish Library in Buffalo as well as the oldest Polish American organization in Western New York,” said librarian and Cultural Committee chair Lisa Lewandowski-Stoll, who has been a board member since 2017. “Our library contains over 12,000 volumes, 95% of which are written in Polish. Over the past several years the Library has undergone a major reorganization and remodel in an effort to preserve the valuable collection of Polish books, manuscripts, artifacts and historical records. Fundraising events like the Mickiewicz Music Fest help us continue upper Library renovations, maintain our facilities and continue our Polish Cultural programs.”
One wristband grants access to all three venues for a full day of live music, fabulous food, premier local and European beverages and some added surprises. All venues within walking distance!
“As Librarian I spearheaded the upper Library project along with a small but dedicated group of board members and volunteers, and have documented the transformation along the way as part of the Club’s historical record,” continued Lewandowski-Stoll. “As a matter of fact this past fall we were part of Explore Buffalo’s Doors Open tour to showcase the upper library to the community at large. The photos of the restoration process are on display as part of the tour so folks can see the progression before I gave the actual tour. At this time the Library itself does not have regular hours. It is appointment only, or as part of a tour for access.”
