On this glorious Friday morning, the last thing that you’re thinking about is snow. But it’s of major importance that for a few minutes, we take the time to plan for the future. I’m talking about a time when this city’s sidewalks are properly maintained thanks to a municipal sidewalk snow removal program.
As we have discussed in the past, other cities have managed to implement municipal sidewalk snow removal program, so why not Buffalo? Walking on snow-cleared sidewalks should not be considered a luxury, it should be considered an absolute right.
To that end, GObike Buffalo has a message for you that should be taken to heart…
Not only does burying our sidewalks and bus stops in snow cut our neighbors without cars off from critical services and from work, it forces those who still must go out into the street with traffic, where they’re being injured and killed at historic rates. Join us in this movement to get Buffalo to catch up to more modern cities like Rochester and Syracuse.
Better yet, the Common Council tells us that phone calls dramatically outweigh emails when it comes to requesting policy change. So look up your representative’s phone number here and please leave a brief voicemail “Asking that the Common Council prioritize safety by funding municipal sidewalk snow removal in this year’s budget.”
