Most recently, he received the 2023 Southern Book Prize in Fiction for his novel, Lark Ascending.

Nusantara Arts grew out of an informal club that played and celebrated Gamelan music, which is from the island of Java in Indonesia, and is one of the oldest continuously played musical art forms in the world. This shadow puppet show is performed by Wayang Kulit, and combines virtuosic shadow puppetry, enrapturing gamelan music, comedy, philosophy, community, and civic engagement.
