Buffalo is touted as the Dyngus Day Capital of the World. Over the last decade, the Polish-inspired celebration has steadily grown to magnanimous proportions. The annual post-Lenten affair encompasses a wide range of events, including live music, parties, and a parade. Dyngus Day, with its ever-expanding calendar of events, always takes place the Monday following Easter. Festival venues include church halls, family owned restaurants, taverns, social clubs, and tented festival grounds.
Per usual, the 2023 Dyngus Day event will feature plenty of Polish food and drink, as well as a healthy dose of live music, including 18 time Grammy award winner Jimmy Sturr with special guests IPA Hall of Fame members Johnny Karas and Al Piatkowski, along with Chris Caffery of Trans Siberian Orchestra. Entertainment offerings range from watching traditional folk dance troupes to attending an Easter Monday Mass.
“Remember the whole meaning behind Dyngus Day is one of Resurrection, awakening and new beginnings,” according to festival co-founder Eddy Dobosiewicz. “We look forward to a celebration that will clearly demonstrate the persevering spirit of Polonia and our entire community with the true meaning of Dyngus. It’s why the people of Western New York know that Dyngus is more than just a day, it’s a state of mind.”
