In Buffalo, there are a number of culinary contests that coincide with different holidays. One highly anticipated contest that goes hand-in-hand with the Easter season is Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa. This particular contest is a tribute to Buffalo’s best homemade sausage makers.
New this year, Bacik will be on site with free samples for those in attendance.
The event takes place on Saturday April 8 at Flying Bison Brewing Company, in tandem with the brewery’s Pils, Pierogi & Polka event. Starting at 1pm on that day, home cooks (no commercial chefs) will battle it out in the following categories:
· Fresh Traditional
· Smoked Traditional
· Fresh Holiday (w. marjoram)
· Smoked Holiday (w. marjoram)
· Non-Traditional
“Making kielbasa during the Easter season is an important Polish family tradition,” said organizer Tod A. Kniazuk. “It’s an honor to have so many folks willing to share that with us.”
The contest will be observed by a panel of judges. Winners for different categories will walk away with prize packages, as well as a pair of tickets for the Pils, Pierogi & Polka event, featuring a performance by Those Idiots and drinks by Flying Bison.
Applications are available by emailing buffalobestkielbasa@gmail.com or going to www.facebook.com/buffalobestkielbasa. Applications are due March 24!
