Unkempt vacant lots in a neighborhood can be very problematic. But they are also filled with limiless possibilities.
The Vacant Lots Taskforce (VLT) is a group of block club leaders and community groups that is determined to change the face of Buffalo, one vacant lot at a time. The group is doing this by “working on advocacy for access of public land for community benefit through transparent, improved city policies and collaborative partnerships with neighbors, community-serving organizations coalitions, and local government.”
Currently, there are 8000 publicly-owned vacant lots in the City of Buffalo. While the majority of these are located on the city’s East Side, every neighborhood in the city is affected by this astounding number.
Last October, VLT engaged community members via a Vacant Lot Town Hall, to determine the best course of action to take, to remedy the problem at hand. Now, the group is conducting a virtual follow-up session, to share their recommendations. The recommendations are in direct response to the community’s feedback from the 2022 Vacant Lot Town Hall session.
The virtual follow-up will be held on Tuesday, February 28, from 5:30pm to 7pm.
“Hear our recommendations from community feedback, and share your input before we make more plans to advocate with our local government.” – VLT
