The documentary following the survivors of the 5/14 Tops Shooting in Buffalo.
A Rochester film production studio – Nightmare Kidz Productions – is doing its part to help ease the pain and suffering brought about by the 2022 Tops shooting massacre on the East Side of Buffalo. Writer and director Tony Merkurii feels that the “sister cities” share these types of burdens and responsibilities, which is why it’s so important that we come together as an even stronger “and more connected” region.
Currently, Merkurii has launched a $5000 crowdfunding campaign so that he can embark upon the project, which will ultimately allocate financial proceeds from the film to the families and victims of the tragedy. The documentary will follow the family members of the Buffalo 10, as well as the survivors and the East Side community. Merkurii intends on utilizing Buffalo BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) talents for the production, including designers, wardrobe, and makeup artists.
Aside from the Indiegogo campaign, Merkurii is hosting an in-person fundraiser at Eugene V. Debs Hall on Saturday, February 25 (7-10pm) at Eugene V. Debs Hall – 483 Peckham Street, Buffalo, NY 14206.
“The intimate fundraiser will have the 10 victims’ families in attendance,” said Byron Gillan, who is a volunteer with Nightmare KidZz Productions. “There will be local musicians and spoken word artists, like Poet Laureate, Jillian Hanesworth.”
For anyone that has been wondering how they could make an immediate, tangible, and impactful difference, this powerful documentary will be a real eye-opener. It’s these types of memorialized efforts that will ensure that the victims’ names are not only remembered… their stories will be told in ways that only a documentary is able to accomplish.
