The Super Bowl is typically associated with foods that are considered pretty unhealthy, and not at all oriented to vegan-friendly dishes. That’s why Marcy Zastrow, aka The Vegan Educator, is on a mission to get more people thinking about what they’re putting into their bodies on Super Bowl Sunday. Zastrow, who has been leading a vegan lifestyle for over 25 years, runs Project Vegan 716, an initiative that involves vegan lifestyle coaching, educational seminars, and DIY workshops. Also, in order to better promote veganism to customers she organizes Buffalo Vegan Pop-Up Markets. She considers these markets a “one-stop-shop” for people who are interested in learning about living a vegan lifestyle, whether it’s for healthy or humare reasons.
Vegan means NO animal products. Animal products that must be avoided include meat, poultry, fish, eggs, whey, casein, dairy, honey, beeswax, feathers, silk, wool, suede, satin (unless synthetic), and pearls.
“The pop-up markets are held every two months at The Vegan Center and feature a wide variety of vendors,” said Zastrow. “This Saturday we are welcoming a new vendor, Jenny Cat’s Candy. They make freeze dried vegan candies! I believe this is their first event, and definitely their first market with The Vegan Center. Other vendors include Onyx Skin Care Line (they make their own products using organic ingredients), Em and Em’s Books (used book resellers with their mystery books-wrapped books with clues but no titles!), Compassion and Cucumbers (they do a weekly vegan-themed podcast and will have merchandise for sale), Food Not Bombs, Buffalo’s V-Spot, and Project Vegan 716. The Gift Shop will be open, representing over two dozen local vendors. Food Not Bombs will be accepting non-perishable vegan food donations as the admission fee. They also accept clean food containers and cash. All are welcome at The Vegan Center! We are going to hold our next market on Earth Day, so we will emphasize the sustainability of a vegan lifestyle then.”
It’s time to climb aboard the vegan train, with a first stop to The Vegan Center at 60 Broad Street in Tonawanda, NY. Everyone is welcome – diehard vegans to vegan curious.
