The Chandler Street Winter Market is in place to provide an indoor-outdoor market experience for people during the colder months. As much as we love our warm weather outdoor markets, there comes a time when they are buttoned up for winter. That’s when the Chandler Street Winter Market shines.
The market, managed by Robbie Gianadda of Flat #12 Mushrooms, is now underway. It is operating Saturday mornings from 9am-2pm, until the end of April.
Visitors to the market will find all sorts of pleasing market offerings, in a reclaimed industrial setting in Black Rock. Items at the market include hot prepared meals, decadent baked goods, steaming bowl of soup, specialty coffee, tea, or hot cocoa, and seasonal surprises. Along with some pop-up marketeers, there are a number of resident food producers and restaurateurs at Kitchens on Chandler, located at 27 & 37 Chandler Street.
Market favorites include mouth watering sweet treats (baked goods, artisan chocolates, and more), savory knishes, a variety of fresh mushrooms and mushroom delicacies, sustainable frozen seafood, barbecued dishes hot off the smoker, healthy prepared meals, organic local greens and crisp apples, freshly pressed cider and juices, wines, spices, CBD products and so much more!
“We wanted to create a safe space for customers to shop local, and for local food producers to reach their customers,” said Robbie. “This is essential for our community at large and we’re all coming together to make it happen— we have so much to offer from fall right through until spring! We are thankful for the support of Slow Food Buffalo-Niagara and the tenants of Kitchens on Chandler for helping make this possible.”
Most of these tenant businesses are open during Saturday market hours (in addition to weekday hours), and several require pre-ordering, according to Robbie.
A trip to Chandler Street is always an eye-opener, as you never know exactly what you will find. During a recent visit, I came across a number of exceptional producers and marketeers, including Canna House, Logan’s Bagels, Southern Junction Barbecue, Pacific Clouds Seafood, Nickel City Vice (gourmet ice cream sandwiches), Nikki’s Chocolates, Buffalo Cake Pops, and a bunch of other delectable enterprises. The best way to get the lay of the land, and some delicious treats, is to pay a visit during the Winter Market. It’s quickly becoming a rite of winter passage.
