A struggling Radisson Hotel could have a residential future. Salt Lake City-based J.B. Earl Company and Michael J. Conroe of Elev8 Architecture are teaming up on a $25 million project to convert the Radisson hotel at 100 Whitehaven Road on Grand Island into apartments. The 12-acre site is located on the Niagara River.
Currently 263 rooms, the redevelopment plan calls for 138 residential units. The existing restaurant and fitness center would be expanded and the complex would retain its 26,000 sq.ft. of conference and meeting space. A rooftop patio and co-working space are also planned.
Substantial exterior renovations are proposed. Public space includes a proposed waterfront trail and the development team is offering the town a half-acre site along the river for construction of a boat launch and public parking.
The hotel is currently owned by an affiliate of the McSam Hotel Group. The development team is seeking a rezoning of the site.
J.B. Earl Company and Conroe are making their mark locally and have been involved with The Grid and The Rails on Main Street, The Elli in Tonawanda, and The Riv in the Old First Ward.
