On Thursday, September 29, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Just Buffalo Literary Center and the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library will host a Lit City Celebration at the Central Library’s Reading Park in downtown Buffalo, located at 1 Lafayette Square.
The celebration of literary arts will feature poetry, live music, and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s (NFTA) collaborative public art project – “Lit City: On the Move.” Activities on that day range from poetry readings and music performances (by Daughters of Creative Sound, Little Cake, and Taylor Made Jazz) to made-to-order poetry on typewriters and video screenings.
The poetic works of Lit City: On the Move – “a public art project that brings poems by local Western New York writers to the streets of Buffalo” – have been featured on buses, bus shelters, and at MetroRail stations throughout WNY in 2022.
Featured readers at the Lit City Celebration include Ansie Baird, Theo Bellavia-Frank, Kim Chinquee, Allei Floyd, Jillian Hanesworth, Zanaya Hussain, Justin Karcher, Amanda Kelly, Rebekah S. Malone, Trinity Ridout, Sherry Robbins, Maria Scrivani, Irene Sipos, Annette Daniels Taylor, Carol Townsend, Julio Montalvo Valentín, Keira VanDerBeck, and ryki zuckerman.
The Lit City Celebration is free and open to the public, made possible with support from the New York State Council on the Arts. A schedule of performances will be made available ahead of the event at justbuffalo.org/lit-city-celebration and at www.BuffaloLib.org.
The new Reading Park (learn more) is located at the intersection of Washington and Broadway, on the same corner as the library.
