June is Pride Month for the LGBTQIA+ community. Sunday, June 5 the Pride Parade returned to Elmwood Avenue after 2 years. Members of the community and allies were out in full force to see the parade as it took Elmwood by storm. After the parade, the party continued at the Outer Harbor.
The 2022 Pride parade was the biggest Pride hit to date. Kevin VanWagner had this to say about the event on his Facebook page:
“Pride 2022…Definitely one for the record books. It was recorded to have over 200 units in the parade. Catch this. The front of parade is hitting Allen (finish line) and we still have 2 rows that haven’t even gone yet at Buff State! Canalside is packed to the gills.”
That pretty much summed up the day, in a nut shell. People that we have spoken to all say that this event of unity couldn’t have come at a more perfect time in Buffalo. Congratulations to all of the organizers and participants. And thanks to the entire community for coming out in droves, to show how resilient this city is in the face of adversity. We will all rise together, moving forward, as a stronger, more united city.
