Join artist Nicole Chochrek for Artist Talk on Saturday, April 30th at 2pm at El Museo- a nonprofit, professionally directed visual arts organization dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary work by underserved artists, and cultural programming that engages diverse communities through the arts and humanities. Chochrek’s work in her MFA Thesis Exhibition titled “Idiom” can be seen on display from now until May 21st.
Chochrek is an interdisciplinary artist utilizing visual and performative frameworks to explore contemporary issues and environmental disparities. Her work is based on the accessibility and digestibility of information, deep listening, shared responsibilities, and the construction of new ways of being together.
“Idioms do not follow standard grammar. They can exist outside of syntax and semantics. They are the exceptions to rules and can defy logic. They are unbothered by correctness, and encompass possibility. Idioms are not deducible, and show how language is immensely complex. This work explores these immensities through instances of divergence and similarity. It is a glimpse into the many occurrences of a dyslexic with a neurodivergent mind,” says Chockrek.
Be sure to stop by to hear about the complexities and innerworkings of Chochrek’s works on display. El Museo is located at 91 Allen Street, Buffalo, NY. For more information or to learn more about the work done with El Museo visit their website.
