If you’re new to Buffalo, then there are certain things that you must try out immediately. One of these things is a visit to Tifft Nature Preserve, located within the city, near to the Outer Harbor. Not many people equate city-living with nature preserves, but Buffalo is lucky to possess not just one, but two nature preserves within its city limits (Times Beach is the other).
A trek through Tifft is quite remarkable. To get a better sense of the lay of the land, click here.
There’s so much to see and do, that one trip to Tifft is never enough. That’s because throughout the year, visitors can take part in numerous indoor and outdoor activities, including science and nature camps, sunset meditations, moon strolls, snowshoe treks, pop-up playdates, nature walks, turtle tours, night bat hikes, bird watching… the list goes on and on.
Sometimes, the best way to get to know a place is to be guided. That’s exactly what’s happening this coming Wednesday, when Tifft offers its Sunrise Walk – a fabulous opportunity to get some fresh air, while walking with others who also appreciate the impressive natural surroundings. There’s also a networking component, to meet like-minded people who appreciate nature, Buffalo, and anything else of common interest.
The hour-long walk (7:30 am – 9:00 am) will be followed by tea and coffee in the community center, which is looking exceptional these days. And speaking of looking great, the weather looks like it will be cooperating for the trek, with partly cloudy skies and a high of 56F. At the same time, be sure to dress warm, and bring some footwear that you don’t mind getting muddy.
BYOM (bring your own mug/thermos) is encouraged, however, Tifft does have ceramic mugs available. Restrooms are also available. Parking is free. Click here to register.
For more information on Tifft, the event and parking, visit the event page, where you can keep track of future activity-based offerings.
