On Saturday, March 26, the Ukrainian-American Civic Center will host Fight for Freedom, upon which time the community will be able to show their support for the war-torn country. For a mere $20 a person ($35 a couple), supporters will be able to unwind and have some fun, at a time when it might seem difficult to do so, as all minds are upon the uneasy state of world affairs at the moment.
But there are Ukrainian people that are in desperate need of help. They require food and clothing, and the best way to ‘answer the call’ is to gather together, chip in some money towards the relief effort, and send out some positive vibrations in the process.
“Russian military has deliberately targeted civilians in a terror campaign,” said Yuri Hreshchyshyn, chair, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America – Buffalo Chapter. “This has resulted in a humanitarian crisis on a scale not seen since WWII. Migrants are crossing Western borders in record numbers. Those that stay are fighting for survival.“
Adding to that sentiment, a Ukraine soldier who wished to be anonymous, said, “The situation is desperate in Ukraine now. The heartless assault by the Putin regime is evil incarnate, please help our people however you can.”
The Fight for Freedom event will feature The All-Star Band, featuring members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as well as Clann Na Cara adult Irish dancers, with the Buffalo Bagpipe Band. There will be food from Maria’s Ukrainian Kitchen.
For anyone who has never been to the Ukrainian-American Civic Center at 205 Military Road, this is a great opportunity to check out something new, meet some friendly faces, wear the Ukrainian flag on your sleeve, and relax and enjoy yourself in the company of others who care about resolving the conflict.
