Applications now open for homemade kielbasa entries
Do you think you’ve got what it takes to make Buffalo’s best kielbasa? If so, then maybe you should consider entering your delectable creation into the annual Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa Contest.
It’s been two years since the last contest was held, which means that people will be chomping at the bit to get their hands on the finest kielbasa in the land.
This year’s contest will be homemade only (no commercial category) and is broken down into the following categories:
- Fresh Traditional
- Smoked Traditional
- Fresh Holiday (w. marjoram)
- Smoked Holiday (w. marjoram)
- Non-Traditional
The showdown will be held at high noon on Saturday April 16 at Flying Bison Brewing Company, kicking off their Pils, Pierogi & Polka event. At that time, a panel of judges will be asked to select their favorite kielbasa in each category, which is no an easy task.
As an added incentive to enter the contest, winners will receive a prize package, and all entrants will receive a pair of tickets for the Pils, Pierogi & Polka event, featuring a performance by Those Idiots, food by Café Godot, and drinks by Flying Bison. What more could anyone ask for?
Applications are available by emailing buffalobestkielbasa@gmail.com or going to www.facebook.com/buffalobestkielbasa. Applications are due April 8.
“I am lucky to have travelled to Poland four times and experienced the food , culture, beer and most importantly, the welcome of the Polish people. “As a proud member of Polonia and a longtime Kielbasa contest judge, I’m thrilled to play a part in continuing this great event that highlights such an important family Easter tradition,” concluded co-organizer Tod A. Kniazuk. “Not to mention the fact I get to try so many family sausage recipes!”
