One of Buffalo’s newest galleries on the scene, The Gallery at Duende, is promoting its upcoming show titled Art & Psychedelics. The show will feature psychedelic-inspired works by Sean Madden, Nate Hodge, Tim Clancy, Joe Beasley, and Michelle DaRin.
“The show aims to promote a conversation about the use of psychedelics to raise consciousness to help healing,” said artist Michelle DaRin, who hails from Syracuse, but who finds herself showing more and more in Buffalo. “The 1960’s counterculture Psychedelic Art movement featured highly distorted surrealist visuals and bright colors. The 5 artists in this show are working from that same framework. There are three painters, a fractal artist and myself. My sculpture will be interactive and inspired by the holographic universe, as well as wearable art jewelry and denim inspired by the consciousness movement.”
The group show is inspired by the counterculture movement of the 1960’s featuring highly distorted surrealist visuals and bright colors.
Darin noted that she finds a lot of inspiration at The Gallery at Duende (at Silo City), where she has “rocked” a number of her jewelry and clothing fashion designs this summer.
I first covered the opening of the gallery, operated and curated by artist Julia Skop, back in April. It turns out that the opening art shows have become something of a “scene” unto themselves, mainly due to the caliber of the artists, and the fact that there is a “happening” bar on the first floor of the building (the gallery is upstairs).
For this upcoming two-day kick-off show, there will be plenty of eye-popping art, including digital art, jackets, paintings, sculptures, jewelry… and live music! Flash Bam Pow will take to “the stage” on Friday, from 6pm to 8pm. Then, on Saturday, Harmonic Dirt will play from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
