Alleyway Theatre Announces 2021-2022 Season

Live theatre is back and you won’t want to miss out this incredible season.

This month, Alleyway Theatre announced an exciting 42nd season which features four new plays: a theatrical event where every night is opening night; a world premiere about growing up from the playwright of Grown-Ass Louis; a comedy about depression set in a 1996 computer lab; and the next installment of their annual short play festival, Buffalo Quickies. Plus, the return of The Golden Girls and A Christmas Carol will round out a “not-to-be-missed” year of great theatre.

The season opens with White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, which premieres September 9, 2021 through October 10, 2021.

White Rabbit, Red Rabbit” is the brainchild of Iranian-born playwright Nassim Soleimanpour. He is also the Artistic Director of the Berlin based theatre company Nassim Soleimanpour Productions. Forbidden to leave his country, playwright Soleimanpour distills the experience of an entire generation in this wild, utterly original play. A remarkable theatrical experience where a different actor each night is presented with a script sealed in an envelope, the play can never be performed by the same actor ever again. It’s the true meaning of one-night-only. Alleyway has booked an incredible lineup of actors, including:

  • Anthony Chase – September 9
  • Alexandria Watts – September 10
  • Darryl Semira~ – September 11
  • Melinda Capeles – September 16
  • Victoria Pérez – September 17
  • Todd Benzin – September 18
  • Peter Horn – September 23
  • Don Gervasi~ – September 24
  • Joyce Stilson – September 25
  • Charmagne Chi – September 30
  • Brandon Williamson – October 1
  • Norman Sham~ – October 2

Next up, running from November 4-November 21 is The Golden Girls Lost Episodes Vol. 2, the follow-up to the hit drag comedy that ran in 2019. *

Just in time for Christmas and an annual tradition, A Christmas Carol returns to the stage for its 39th year, running from December 3-23. *

Playing February 10, 2022-March 5, Buffalo Quickies, a festival of short plays from some of today’s best new playwrights both in WNY and around the country returns in its 31st iteration

Opening March 31, 2022 and running through April 23, Berserker is a Mazumdar-winning new play, in which an idealistic teacher comes face-to-face with a bear in the wilderness and finds himself spiraling into a mid-life crisis. He leaves his partner, child, and students in pursuit of a new career where he forms an unlikely friendship with a young boy, as they help each other step forward into a brave new future.

The season closes with the Buffalo premiere of The Oregon Trail, opening May 5, 2022 and running through May 28. It’s 1996 and Jane is trapped in her middle school computer lab playing “The Oregon Trail.” Suddenly the game comes to life and whisks us back to 1848 to travel covered-wagon style with Jane’s great-great-grandmother. As the game moves us (and Jane) back and forth in time, Jane forms a bond with her ancestors while navigating the complexities of a modern life. This comedy about depression from the EMMY-nominated writer of “This Is Us” is a must for anyone who grew up trying not to die of dysentery.

You can, of course, buy tickets for individual shows, but right now, Alleyway Theatre is offering a great subscription deal — see 4 shows for $150! If you work in the industry, are a teacher or a frontline worker you’ll save $35 and those under 30 can get this deal for $99.

Don’t wait. These tickets won’t last long.
