2021 Ted Reinhardt Western NY Drumming Festival

Did you know that WNY is home to a heralded drumming festival? I’m not talking about a large drum circle (those are nice too), I’m referring to a full-fledge drumming (free to participate) event that attracts a wide range of drummers and percussionists from all across the region. These types of drum gatherings have been becoming more and more popular throughout the world, with drummers of all ages and abilities coming together to socialize, play together, and (in the case of WNY) raise money for a good cause. In this instance, the charity event benefits the Ted Reinhardt and Bruce Brucato Memorial Fund at Kenmore East High School.

Ted Reinhardt was a prolific drummer who played in bands such as Junction West, Gamalon, Willie and the Reinhardts, and Taxi. Reinhardt was also drummer on Spyro Gyra’s Morning Dance album. Rock guitarist bruce Brucato played with Junction West, and recorded/toured with Rodan and Gamalon. Reinhardt and Brucato are both inducted members of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Ted Reinhardt Drum Days is a way for drummers of all ages to pay tribute to these legendary musicians, while participating in an epic drum gathering. It’s also a wonderful way to support music in general, while paying tribute to two amazing talents that blessed Buffalo with their musical talents.

On the day of the event, participants are invited to set up their drum kits, congas, and djembes on the street and play along to recorded tracks all at the same time. The combined sound effect is something to behold, and the energy in the air is palpable.

The event will also feature a drummer’s flea market and drum clinics… there’s something for everyone to look forward to, no matter one’s musical abilities or tastes.

The Ted Reinhardt Western NY Drumming Festival will be held from 12-4 PM at the historic Old Man River Restaurant located at 375 Niagara Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150. This event is FREE and open to all ages and levels of musical experience. This is an outdoor event, rain or shine.

The day will include prize drawings, a drummer’s flea market and drum clinics as well as a vendor area featuring products and services for dedicated musicians and drummers: Jared Byer (Drummers RX Health and Wellness for Drummers),
Dennis Brown (The History of Kent Drum Company Books), Tom Foote (Cymbal Heaven), Jim Linsner (instructional books), Rick Falkowski (Buffalo History books), Daniel Mink (Used Drum Equipment), Jeff Snow (Used Drum Equipment), David Wasik (The Waz), Queen City Crafts (craft ideas), Hitting Circles (Developing Relationships Using Music), and Hamburg Percussion (drum instruction).

This event is sponsored by: WARDYNSKI’S, OLD MAN RIVER RESTAURANT, WNY DRUMMERS FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE, BUFFALO MUSIC HALL OF FAME, HARZFEST (JIM HARSZLAK) FOUNDATION, ALLSTATE INSURANCE OF THE CITY OF TONAWANDA, and COCA COLA.

*The Ted Reinhardt and Bruce Brucato Memorial Fund gives $500 scholarships to seniors going to college for music or a music related field. The Ted Reinhardt Western New York Drumming Festival hopes to collect donations for the Scholarship Fund as well as baby diapers, socks, underwear and clothing which can be brought to this event for WNY Drummers for Homeless People.
