Not that long ago, I wrote up a piece on two of my friends who were embarking upon a pretty awesome venture called “TimberHut Cabin Company.” At the time, they had built out a manufacturing shop in the Seneca-Babcock neighborhood. But it didn’t take long before they outgrew the space. So Brooks Anderson and Brian Wilcox did what any other entrepreneurial frontiersmen would have done – they headed for the great outdoors – Great Valley (just south of Ellicottville) to be exact.
“Our new location in Great Valley allows us to create a production line for our cabins,” Brooks told me. “We hope to scale to more than 200 cabins a year. But the property will itself become a destination – 5 acres of lighted open land for events, rentable accommodations, farmers markets, etc. And lots of cabins! We’re also planning a sizable showroom and retail ‘outfitters’ complete with custom furnishings, camping gear, outdoor accessories, and everything one would find within 100 feet of a TimberHut Cabin!”
Brooks told me that their new headquarters is a retrofitted car dealership…
It’s incredible to think that these guys have come such a long way in such a short period of time. Then again, knowing Brooks and Brian, I expect nothing less. They are constantly keeping me guessing when it comes to their next moves…
It’s funny, although I had recently chatted with Brooks about TimberHut’s expansion, I was not aware that they were working with the Buffalo Maritime Center to build a new rowboat and FLOatmingo Shed at Delaware Park (Gala Waters aka Hoyt Lake).
“We wanted to give the Maritime Center something a little more significant than what had been there,” Brooks told me. “We also had an opportunity to reflect the style of structures that had been in that very spot over 100 years ago.”
Not only will this new shed help the workers to get their jobs done in assisting lake-goers, it will also stand proudly as a testament to this region’s artisan ingenuity, thanks to our friends at TimberHut, and their ongoing pursuits of the Great Outdoors.
