The place to be on Saturday, July 24th is South Buffalo. South Buffalo Porchfest organizer Paul Blake (South Buffalo Roots) has tallied the numbers, and it sounds as if this year’s event will be a real humdinger. Paul reached out to say that there will be a whopping 120 performances throughout the day, featuring upwards of 100 bands, playing on 75 porches.
“Just pick a street, and you will find bands that are within walking distance,” said Paul, who is crossing his fingers for nice weather on that day.
As we saw with the Elmwood Village Porchfest, these types of events have the ability of transforming neighborhood perceptions. It’s as if the homeowners, musicians, and music lovers all rally together for a common cause – a love for Buffalo and a love for live music.
In the case of South Buffalo Porchfest, the event gives neighborhoods a chance to show off their assets. I plan on posting up at a friend’s house on that day, who recently moved to South Buffalo. From there, we are going to travel the streets, with map in hand. Aside from a handy map, there’s also an online resource that displays participating house street/numbers, times, and music acts.
If you live in South Buffalo, it’s as easy as walking out of your front door. If you live in other parts of the city, this is a great chance to familiarize yourself with another part of the city that will be jamming on July 24th.
