Explore & More raising funds for a year round accessible children’s playground on Give 716 Day

Give 716 Day is just around the corner. This special day is dedicated to Buffalo – especially the non-profit organizations that help to make this city stronger when it comes to the environment, education, culture, equity, and accessibility.

After years of celebrating 716 Day, the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres set out to enhance the special day by adding a fundraising component. Their thought was that Buffalonians (especially sports fans) would rally around the non-profits that improve the quality of life for so many people.

On Give 716 Day 2021, one particular non-profit will be launching a new campaign to raise funds per accessibility for disabled children. Explore & More – The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum, with the help of Mason’s Mission and Dunn Tire, is aiming to build a fully accessible indoor playground. The therapeutic playground will provide year-round play access to youngsters who have cognitive issues, mobility challenges, or both. Amenities will include the first wheelchair accessible carousel.

Now that the Children’s Museum is in full swing, the mission (under the direction of its Access & Inclusion and Education Committees) is to bring their resources to all children and families. At this point, there are three 100% inclusive playgrounds in WNY, but due to this region’s four season climate, these crucial resources are not accessible year round. This new indoor playground at the Children’s Museum will be unique in that it will be accessible even in inclement weather.

On Give 716 day 2020, the community is encouraged to support this new inclusive playground. On that day, Dunn Tire has agreed to match $25,000 (dollar for dollar) the donations raised – all of which will be earmarked for the cause. Plus, depending on the donation amounts, Explore and More will be offering up raffle prizes, “… from museum membership to birthday parties and even a chance to win dinner for four prepared by Chef Darian Bryan, personal chef to many of the Buffalo Bills, right in their home!”

Donations can be made starting at 7:16 pm on Thursday, July 15 through 11:59 pm on Friday, July 16. Click here to learn more.
