A new mural by Nicole Cherry has popped up at the corner of Hertel and Delaware, directly next to the soon-to-open Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo (more on that front soon).
This mural proudly waves the North Buffalo flag. There is also a nice shout out to Hertel’s role as “Little Italy” – the street was once home to the Italian Festival and is also home to a number of Italian restaurants.
In recent years, Hertel has also become known as an epicenter for some of the most prolific murals in Buffalo. To that end, there is an actual alley that is dedicated to murals and graffiti, along with an annual Hertel Alley Street Art Festival (during non-pandemic times).
This particular mural is thanks to Delaware District Councilmember Joel Feroleto and Arts Services Inc. It’s a perfect backdrop to the new Italian cultural center, which will be wrapping up (and opening up) soon enough.
“I am excited to see another mural on Hertel Avenue,” said Feroleto. “The murals on Hertel have become a destination for locals and out-of-town visitors alike. Also, there will be another very flavorful mural attraction completed this summer on Hertel that I think people are going to love, so stay tuned for that announcement coming soon. Nicole Cherry’s mural (that we see here) is a nice little ‘Welcome to Hertel’ message that we felt was an important addition to the ever-growing mix of public art in North Buffalo.”
