TreBrewChet – Breweries Launching Pumpkins @ The Outer Harbor!

This competition has Buffalo written all over it!

Attending a Trebuchet Competition is a pretty memorable occasion. What’s a Trebuchet Competition, you ask? Well, this is the sort of event where teams build catapult (using a swinging arm) to launch projectiles such as… pumpkins!

And that’s exactly what teams will be launching at the inaugural TreBrewChet, where seven breweries, one malthouse, and one meadery, will be battling it out against one another to see who can launch a pumpkin the best. To top it off, each of the competitors is in the process of building their own trebuchets, which will be shooting for distance and accuracy!

This spectacular event will obviously be one for the Buffalo record books – a day of pumpkin launches, food trucks, and beer… all designed around a family friendly atmosphere.

“I go to the Trebuchet Competition in Clarence most years, at The Great Pumpkin Farm, and they are our partners on this as well,” said co-organizer Ethan Cox, from Community Beer Works. “It’s fun, geeky, family friendly and helps promote the beer/farming industries. It’s the perfect use of a crisp fall day on the spectacular Outer Harbor!”

Cox said that he is trying to up the ante when it comes to events, festivals and “weeks” in Buffalo. There’s a festival around every corner, which is why it was important to come up with something completely out of the ordinary. And since everyone loves the fall season, it seemed to be the perfect fit.

Participants at this event are:

Community Beer Works
12 Gates Brewing Company
Hamburg Brewing Company
West Shore Brewing Company
Pearl Street Grill & Brewery
Swiftwater Brewing
Lilly Belle Meads
1886 Malt House

Each of the institutions will be building a catapult contraption to outdo the other. In the end, there can be only one. The best part? We all get a chance to watch it go down, whether it’s the machine, or a far flung pumpkin with a splat!

For more information, stay tuned to this Facebook event page. Saturday, September 28, 2019. Opens at 9am, with free admission. Launchings at the Outer Harbor.
