So, how good are we actually feeling about this 3-0 Bills team? If you had asked me after the first half yesterday, I would have had a much different answer than I do right now. I thought Allen had the best half of his career and then he had to go ahead and throw that interception that resembled 2018 all too well. Yes, he is still going to make mistakes, but until he stops making decisions like that, the Bills are going to continue to let mediocre teams hang around.
You really can’t say enough about the defense as they have now been labeled to some as NFL’s number one unit. These guys swarm to the ball and are playing as a cohesive unit while different players are stepping up each and every week. The one complaint I have about yesterday is that once again, they came out in the second half totally different than they had been in the first 2 quarters. They opened up with 5 runs and I just don’t know why the coaches don’t keep the foot on the gas. Next thing you know, one interception turns the whole game upside down and it started to feel like the wheels were coming off. I recall sitting there in my seat in the 4th quarter wondering, “How in the world are they losing this game right now?!”
Fortunately, Allen stepped up again when he needed to and delivered a throw to Dawson Knox that got them near the Cinci 20 yard line. This very well may have been my favorite play in the last 10 years as Knox absolutely decimated the defenders going for an extra 30 yards after the catch. Frank Gore ends up taking it into the endzone… and when the Bengals offense took the field, the crowd was deafening. Tre White continues to show why he is one of the top corners in the league as he closed the game out with his second interception of the day.
We all know who is coming to town this week and although I have a hard time thinking that any opponent could blow out this team/defense, I just don’t think the Bills are quite ready for the well oiled machine that is the New England Patriots. This is going to be the real gauge as to how good Buffalo really is, and if they can keep the score within 7 for most of the game, they MAY just stand a chance.
