6 hours, 250 volunteers… KaBOOM!

A new children’s playground is being introduced to Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. On Friday over 250 volunteers came together to build “a kid-designed, state-of-the-art playground.” Incredibly, the playground was completed in just 6 hours, thanks to the coordinated efforts of Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, and KaBOOM!

The plan for the playground was drawn up by children from the neighborhood – they contributed their thoughts and ideas, which were then enacted upon using an assortment of KaBOOM!’s interactive offerings. The new playground is part of an even wider effort to create PLAYces – safe and thoughtful areas for families to play – throughout the city of Buffalo.

This particular play area is located near picnic grounds, which gives families the opportunity to spend longer hours at the MLK, Jr. Park. As an added bonus, each picnic table top is painted with an interactive game or lesson to be learned, which is a great touch!
