Ciders have become such big business in NYState, that there is now an entire week devoted to them. Did you know that there are already a couple of cideries in Buffalo, with more on the way? It is interesting to note that one of the leading cider advocates and original producers was Carl Schmitter, who started off in the wine business when he opened up a small shop on Hertel Avenue, upwards of 15 years ago. It didn’t take Schmitter long to get into the cider business – today, 95% of the produce for his ciders comes from NY state farms.
For the second year in a row, NYState is celebrating ciders with its second annual Cider Week. A number of events, activities, and tastings will take place starting today (Thursday, August 22).
You are invited to attend a cider and cheese pairing on Saturday August 24th from noon to 6pm at Chateau Buffalo. Five different ciders will be featured, all of which were crafted in-house. The ciders will be paired with locally made NYS cheeses. Not only is this a fun opportunity to taste test some exceptional ciders and cheeses, it’s also a fun trip to the Niagara Frontier Food Terminal, which is always full of surprises.
