Update: The Indiegogo Campaign has changed the name of it fundraising initiative to “Larry, Long time resident of Williamsville”.
As the polar vortex continues to cast its cold wintry conditions upon the US, it’s imperative that everyone is provided with adequate shelter from the freezing temperatures (both humans and domesticated animals). Unfortunately being homeless often means that some unfortunate souls are not prepared to take cover, no matter how many shelter organizations are in place to help.
The tragic news of a homeless man in Williamsville, who was apparently found frozen to death at the bus shelter earlier this morning, has prompted the community to come together to raise funds for a proper memorial. The man, known to many as “”Larry, Long time resident of Williamsville” was an iconic figure, similar to The Lady in White and Screaming Jean in Buffalo.
In order to create a memorial to Larry, a GoFundMe page has been established, which will help to preserve his memory.
“Today is a sad day in the Village of Williamsville. Larry, a Williamsville resident, was found in a bus shelter from apparently freezing to death. As many of you know, Larry has been in our area for as long as we can remember. He was quiet man with many different stories about his life, who never caused any trouble. So many strangers and local businesses supported him by offering him meals, spare change, and a safe place to sleep at night. He never expected a thing from anyone and will forever be remembered as a legend in Williamsville. Please join us in giving Larry a proper memorial. 100% of the proceeds will go towards this campaign, and any leftover funds will be donated to a local charity. It Takes A Village… thank you so much for your support!” – Memorial Organizers
