Get Your Fix of Swing Dancing

It’s been a hot minute since I wrote about the swing dancing scene in Buffalo. The thing about swing dancing, as well as multiple other forms of partner dances, is that they tend to come and go, popping up here and there. Unless you’re paying attention to swing dance groups such as Swing Buffalo, chances are that you might not even know that there is a scene in Buffalo at all.

SwingBuffalo is lucky enough to have a home at the Polish Cadets, 927 Grant Street. That’s where a number of dance events are held, including the upcoming:

  • Balboa 1.5 : Time to Toss-Out with Margaux & Phil | Tuesday, January 29 | Build on the skills from the beginner level and add Bal-Swing to your dancing. Intermediate level – A familiarity with pure Balboa moves is required, including up hold and down hold basics, ad libs and come around.
  • Blues “Idiom” Sampler with Lihann | Tuesday, January 29 | 7:45 PM – 8:30 PM | Blues “idiom” dances are distinct dances in Blues with specific rhythms and movements that characterize the dance. Join the class and learn some of the most famous and most common of the “idiom” Blues dances.
  • Blues Idiom Dance Sampler Part 2 with LihannEvery Tuesday, Feb 5 – Feb 26 | 7pm 
  • Shim Shamapalooza with Leah & MikeEvery Tuesday, Feb 5 – Feb 26 | 7:45pm | Start off learning the famous line dance known the world over. If you know it, this will be a great time to review and learn some variations, if you don’t – now’s the time to learn.
  • Sal and his Swingin’ Six at Lindy Fix (Six will be making a special appearance at Lindy Fix) | Tuesday, February 26 | 7:45pm – 11pm | Sal Andolina is a clarinetist with the Buffalo Philharmonic and is known as Buffalo’s own Benny Goodman. Sal and his Swingin’ Six will serenade us from their repertoire of traditional Jazz and Swing.

The home of Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Charleston in Buffalo, NY. Come solo, or grab a partner, and brush up on your swing dancing with some of the best instructors in the land.
