A Mid Winter’s Draw (Winter ’19) – 36 Artists Drawing Live In Two 45 Minute Sessions

There are certain events that have become synonymous with Buffalo. A Mid Winter’s Draw is one of them. The event is one of the more fun-filled, and unusual, art events to be held each year. That’s because there are so many exciting elements, ranging from a mass live drawing, to a lively bidding process. This year’s artist pool, from grad students to seasoned senior artists, features the following talents:

Darren Adair • Monica Angle • Kobie Barber • Obsidian Bellis • Julia Bottoms • Kristin Brandt • Joel Brenden • Daniel Butler • Kyle Butler • Caitlin Cass • Emily Churco • Patrick Facemire • Fotini Galanes • Rich Gouinlock • Bobby Griffiths • Chad Grohman • Curtis A. Guy • Barbara Hart • Evan Hawkins • Jay P. Hawkins Sr. • Joyce Hill • Tom Holt • Ashley Johnson • Dot Keller • Iris Kirkwood • Sarah Liddell • Bill Maggio • Vidalia May • Julie Molloy • Alicia Paolucci • Jennifer Ryan • Katherine Sehr • Rachel Shelton • Carol Case Siracuse • Rodney Taylor • Rich Tomasello

Fotini Galanes and Alicia Paolucci have now participated in ALL of the Mid Winter’s Draws!

And there’s more. Here are just a handful of interesting aspects of the event:

  • This is the fifteenth drawing rally in seven years – the drawing rally event is held twice a year
  • 36 artists drawing live in two 45 minute rounds
  • Silent auctions that follow create an excellent opportunity for burgeoning and seasoned art collectors
  • Openings bids set at $39
  • Winning bidders might walk off with a drawing for that little—or $50 or $100
  • Occasionally drawings are bid up into a few hundred dollars
  • Framing options are available on site

How cool is that? Guests to the event get to see the works as they are drawn live by the artists. Not only can attendees bid on their favorite artists, they can bid on their favorite works. Now, how often does that happen? Well, twice a year if you are a fan of A Mid Winter’s Draw!

“[No pressure] you do NOT have to buy a thing. Many folks await this event just to come and hang out and enjoy the frantic atmosphere. And we’re not kidding when we say that people STILL come up to us and tell us this is their favorite art event… ever! Come see why.” – Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center
