This past summer, my wife and I went up to Toronto for a concert. Instead of driving the whole way, and dealing with the traffic, we decided to take the car to Hamilton, ONT for an early dinner. From there, we found the nearest GO Train station and headed right into Toronto, which was a breeze.
The only thing that could have made the trip any easier was if the GO Train had left from Buffalo, or even Niagara Falls. Well, as luck would have it, GObike Buffalo says that the dream of departing from Niagara Falls (Canada) to Toronto is a giant step closer. GObike reports that “A new GO Train service from Niagara Falls, Canada, to Toronto starts January 7, four years ahead of schedule.”
From GObike Buffalo:
The route and timetable are designed to make it easier for commuters to get from Niagara Falls to Toronto, with the Lakeshore West inbound train to Toronto leaving Niagara Falls at 5:19 a.m. on weekdays and an outbound train from Toronto departing from Union Station at 5:15 p.m. The schedule is thus not ideal for tourists and visitors but we hope to see it expanded once the need is demonstrated. Now we’ll just need to figure out how to easily get to Niagara Falls, Canada, via foot, bike, bus, or train.
Not only is the GO Train a fairly luxurious ride, compared to Amtrak trains (it’s incredibly spacious and smooth), passengers can also bring onboard their bikes, and even their dogs!
This is big news for Buffalonians that like to spend time in Canada, without the hassle of having a car. This enhanced connectivity means that we’re on our way towards realizing the significant benefits of being a true mega-region: TorBufChesterTon Falls.
