Pig and Lamb Roast to Benefit Farmer Dan Tower

There is a reason that many of us who leave the area end up yearning to come back, and finally do.  The incredible sense of community that embodies this region is like no other.  It is infectious, powerful, and truly astonishing at times.  An upcoming event is a true example of this sort of local love that we tend to have for each other, especially during trying times.

This coming Monday, October 22, the local food, beverage, and artisan community is coming together in a most unifying way to join forces in honoring, and benefitting, farmer Dan Tower.  He and his family are local farmers, and have been growing some of the best fruits and vegetables that can be found in the region. Dan has been one of the farm to table figureheads, and paved the way for others to build their businesses around growing, cooking, and serving the freshest foods possible.

It is with a collective heavy heart that the local food community is stepping up to help Dan in a time of need. Dan has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, resulting in his fifth generation farm going up for auction. In response to this news, an event has been organized, to help alleviate some of the immense financial burden that is being incurred.

Community Beer Works, along with RJ Marvin of Barrel + Brine, will be hosting a pig and lamb roast on Monday, October 22. The entire community is invited to attend the event, which will feature a pig from Michael Parkot of Always Something Farm, roasted by Steven Gedra of The Black Sheep. The lamb is courtesy of Kindred Kreek Farm.

Local restaurants and retailers such as Butter Block, BreadHive, Marble + Rye, Oliver’s, Ristorante Lombardo, Lexington Cooperative Market, Barrel + Brine, The Black Sheep, among others, will be contributing/serving appetizers, side dishes, pastries, and breads.  Additionally there will be a silent auction featuring items courtesy of Kindred Kreek Farm, Resurgence, Big Ditch, Thin Man, Flying Bison, Pressure Drop, Buffalo Distilling, Barrel + Brine, Alpine Made, and Oxford Pennant.  Finally, Community Beer Works will graciously donate 50% of their core brand beer sales during the event directly to Dan Tower and his family, to help offset some of the pressures and costs that are now a reality for this incredible family.

With such an outpouring from the local food and beverage community, this event is sure to be an enormous success.  If you’d like to help out, sharing in this awesome representation of our selfless sense of community, there are a few different avenues that you can take.  You can contribute to Dan Tower’s gofundme page here.  Also, the link to buy a $45 ticket for Monday’s event, before they sell out, can be found here.  Additionally, there is a need for volunteers to assist in putting on an event of this capacity. You can email for more information.

It’s time to rally behind a man who has been a leader in ways that we can barely imagine. See you on Monday!
