Outbound – Nerd Scene: Vivid VR Gaming

Virtual Reality is a newer, exciting trend in gaming. It allows one to enter and explore completely new worlds simply by strapping on a special headset. There are all kinds of games that can be played in VR now, ranging from intense shooting games to clever puzzle games, and everything in between. There’s honestly something for everyone when it comes to VR gaming. However, the big issue with getting into VR gaming is the cost of the needed equipment. Now, though, there is a way to enjoy the amazingness of virtual reality gaming without having to purchase all the expensive gear. VR arcades are a new and upcoming business for those who wish to enjoy virtual reality but don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars to do so. There’s one known as Vivid VR Gaming, and it’s right here in Western New York!

Vivid VR Gaming opened in WNY a couple of years ago, but has been at their current location in Depew for about two months. This VR arcade features six room-scale setups and four seats for racing games all using HTC Vive headsets. The equipment used there is impressive. The headsets fit comfortably and are lightweight, which prevents any head movement from feeling cumbersome. The padding around the eyes not only add comfort, but prevent the player from seeing the world around them, adding to the immersion into the digital world. The noise-canceling headphones also add to the immersive experience. It’s easy to forget that the game you’re in isn’t the real world. Don’t worry, you won’t be bumping into things or smacking your friends. The controllers have straps for your wrists, and if you move too far in one direction, you’ll see a message telling you to step back or forward more. The arcade’s owner foresees the possibility of using equipment backpacks for free-roaming virtual reality in the near future.

Their game library is incredible, and there’s definitely a game for every type of gamer. The games to choose from include Beat Saberwhich allows the player to feel like a Jedi with rhythm, a competitive multiplayer archery game called Elven Assassin for those who like fantasy and hunting down their friends, Superhot VR which puts you in quick-thinking combat against enemies that only move when you do, a realistic racing simulator, and much more. There’s even a virtual snowball fight game if you want the winter fun without getting cold and wet. There are so many games offered that one can keep going back and have a different experience each time. I know it makes me want to keep going back to try out more games.

The arcade may be a bit small with not many setups, but there’s still plenty to do if it’s busy and you have to wait. Classic SNES systems are set up in the front waiting area, along with pinball machines, board games, and Rubik’s cubes. There are several screens set up so onlookers can watch what their friends are seeing in virtual reality.

Vivid VR Gaming offers other alluring services. If you want to have your gathering there, they offer a special party package and have a spacious party room with long tables, a TV, and board games. Vivid VR Gaming can also bring their games and equipment on the go and to your event. They’ve had playable setups at various conventions such as Buffalo Comicon.

VR gaming uses exciting technology, and I love the idea of there being an arcade business that takes advantage of it. Because it can be pricey to have VR gaming setups in your homes, this type of business is needed. I can absolutely see VR gaming arcades becoming a standard for hangouts and date nights like bowling or mini-golf. It’s something fun and exciting for people of all ages. I am more than pleased that there is already a VR gaming arcade so close to Buffalo. I highly suggest paying Vivid VR Gaming a visit with your friends or family as soon as you can to experience the future of entertainment.
