Lisa Peacers discusses The Art of Show Business

When it comes to alt show business in Buffalo, there’s a very healthy scene bubbling up. Whether we’re talking about dance troupes, entertainment companies, or freelance performing ensembles, there is one person that has managed to take the bull by the horns, so to speak, in order to help broaden the reach, and elevate the scale, of top notch regional indie productions. That person is Lisa Maiorana.
Maiorana, better known as Lisa Peacers, is a freelance performer and event entertainment director born and raised in Buffalo, NY. Lisa is part of a collective of professional entertainers who have spent the last few years traveling the country, cultivating their craft, and bringing magic to homegrown events right here in Buffalo, NY.
“If you would have told me when I graduated college that this is what I’d be doing with my life, I would have never believed you,” replied Lisa, when asked what led her down the show business road.

Lisa first got into this world when she was introduced to modern hoop dance through her friends in the local rave scene. Shortly after graduating from college, she picked up hula hooping as a hobby (quickly turned passion), but the past four years have been more than just spinning in circles – it’s been a journey into the performance arts and show business.
“I didn’t know it then, but picking up a hoop was a defining moment in my life,” commented Lisa. “It gave me passion and purpose, and opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. It showed me that just because I had graduated college didn’t mean I was done learning or done having fun. It inspired me to go after dance dreams I’ve had my whole life, and pushed me toward circus classes rather than a Master’s degree. It brought me opportunities to travel I wouldn’t have otherwise had and urged me to seek out like minded individuals who wanted to collaborate and get paid to do what we love.”

In 2015, Lisa partnered with Sydney Hull of Rochester, NY to form a WNY based go go and hoop dance troupe. They started out performing at underground events in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, and by 2016 established themselves as area favorites. Soon this crew found themselves performing a variety of specialty acts for some of the best parties Buffalo has to offer at venues like Buffalo RiverWorks, Canalside, The Outer Harbor, and Town Ballroom. Their talents even bringing them to stages beyond WNY at events like Electric Forest, Elrow, Lost Lands, and EDC.

Lisa and her crew have experience working a variety of events, with diverse audiences, through a number of different companies locally, nationally, and internationally. Aside from growing an eclectic roster of performers, offering a variety of specialty acts like stilt walking, LED & fire shows, ambient dancers, strolling entertainment, character performers, aerial acts and juggling, they know what it takes to run a smooth production. Their collective experience not only shows through their performances, but through their flawless creative process for producing quality event entertainment.

“Working in ‘show business’ is not all glamour and glory,” Lisa reflected, when asked about the big picture. “There’s a lot of sometimes grueling behind the scenes work.”

Lisa and her team have spent the last few years building a solid network of performers and industry experts who can seamlessly handle all facets that go into producing an immersive event entertainment experience, including proposals, contracts, media kits, promotional materials, costume styling & creation, hair & make-up, production.
“I wouldn’t be able to execute anything without my team,” she noted. “We’ve been learning and growing together for years now as performers, professionals, and women. We are a strong collaborative force that utilize our unique strengths and experience to put together world class entertainment packages for our partners and clients. Some of the coolest things I’ll ever do will be because of this collective, I’m just lucky enough to be along for the ride.”
After spending the last few years working under multiple companies, Lisa is excited to announce the launch of their new event entertainment venture as a collective, set to release in the new year. Catch a preview of what Lisa and her crew have to offer next weekend at The Witches Ball, and be sure to keep an eye out for these ladies in 2019!
