The big day has finally come… again. On Thursday, October 18, Sinatra & Company Real Estate and Ellicott Development Company will jointly host an informational session, to discuss the future redevelopment of the former Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. This discussion is considered an informal opportunity to glean insight into the planning of the site, including:
- Site Plans
- Building Uses
- New Construction and Demolition
- Concept Designs
- Green Space Initiatives
- Municipal Approvals, including Planned Unit Developments
This is a monumental opportunity to transform an entire section of Elmwood Avenue, and the surround neighborhoods. Now that the hospital has picked up and moved to the Medical Campus, the vacant parcel of land is considered another turning point for the resurrection of this city – the development implications are that enormous. We’re talking about a significant number of new residents, who will be supporting nearby businesses. We’re also presented with a number of new business and retail opportunities, that will build upon the economic character of Elmwood Avenue.
Many of the original assets of the plan, listed at elmwoodcrossing.com, are still on the table (part of The Big Reveal this past January). At the briefing, the public will learn which of the following assets are still on the table, and what has been added/altered since the last presentation.
Assets originally announced include:
- A hotel
- A grocery store
- A day care center
- A health and wellness center
- Residential components of approximately: 22 town homes | 45 upper floor condominiums | 240 apartments throughout the campus including market-rate, historic, and affordable
- Other small retail on West Utica Street and Elmwood Avenue
- Restaurant
- Commercial office
- A pocket park
- Pedestrian pathways
- Public art and conversation corners
