BUREAU Mural is more than mere Lip Service

A collaboration between BUREAU and Klub Weimar has resulted in a splashy new mural on Elmwood Avenue titled “Lip Service”. The mural can be found on the wall that faces the patio of Cecelia’s Restaurant – 716 Elmwood Avenue. What makes this art project so unusual is the collaborative effort that involved private entities, with no public funding. It just goes to show that we can all work together to create a more vibrant Elmwood Avenue, filled with an assortment of street art.

BUREAU’s Jon Eisenberg and Joseph Stocker

“Our goal was to bring the Elmwood Village a playful and fun homage to the pop art movement of the late 1960’s, while also paying tribute to a pervasive icon that has become such a mainstay of contemporary visual culture. Some of the most significant artists of the past half century including Warhol, Dali, Wesselmann, Yokoo and The Rolling Stones, have used this motif to convey a sense of sensuality, flirtation, rebelliousness and play. The 1960’s and 70’s has had a profound impact on our sensibilities both as a brand and as individuals. It was a time period that was daring, inventive, and engaged — a golden era of creativity that forever reshaped our visual landscape. Since the inception of BUREAU, we have made it a point to showcase art, pop culture, music and film as a way of honoring our icons and inspirations. ‘Lip Service’ is a thank you to the Elmwood Village, a community that has allowed our little shop to grow over the past 5 years.” – The BUREAU Boys
