A new DJ series has kicked off in Buffalo at Mohawk Place. This particular series was spurred on by DJ Ann Marie Trietley’s “mid-life crisis”, which she says has driven her to reinvent herself. So often, with mid-life crises we tend to bury our heads, doubt ourselves, and look back at past mistakes. It’s refreshing to see someone take the opportunity and capitalize on it. I asked Ann Marie if she could pass along a little inspiration, by describing her thought process behind the decision to scream from the rooftops that she was facing a mid-life crisis.
Don’t be ashamed of your Mid-Life Crisis, whether you are Gen X, Y, or Z, a Silver Fox, Cougar Professional, or otherwise.
“The inspiration behind my ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ Happy Hour was being 30 years old,” said Trietley. “It was time for reinvention. I work downtown on Main and Court and also frequent the Mohawk, so I see this as a cross between the professional after-work crowd and nighttime music scene. Most happy hour joints pride themselves on their little small plates of whatever the heck, and not having any controversy, which is fine, but I see this as something new that the Professional Crowd will flock to – there’s a stellar beer selection at the Mohawk and also great music, and no judgment. You can discuss business and more taboo topics. Even if you’re a scandalized politician, no one will judge you. It’s dark inside the Mohawk, after all.”
Come As You Are, ready to mix n’ mingle to get over whatever Existential crisis you happen to be going through.
If you’re wondering what type of music Trietley will be serving up, she’s got something for just about everyone.
“I’m sticking to rock music and will move through the ages,” she explains. “I’ve got some Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison, punk from the 70’s and 80’s like Iggy Pop, the Misfits, Ramones and T. Rex, Goth/Post-Punk a la Ministry and Bauhaus, and of course, 90’s grunge especially Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. I will even introduce some metal such as Pantera and contemporary stuff I’m into like The Kills. However, I’d like to keep an element of surprise to my set. It will be all about the experience of a true Mid-Life Crisis, and hopefully people will be talking about it for weeks to come.”
