Allen Tan joins in on the Black Rock Movement

Allen Tan is heading to Black Rock. The tanning salon with the “hassle free tanning in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere” has identified its new “perfect home” at 259 Amherst Street. Allen Tan is picking up from Elmwood, to lease the building, along with a couple of other spa-like enterprises. Allen Tan co-owners/sisters Erin and Amanda Rumsey say that part of their decision to move to Amherst Street is that Black Rock is “…really coming back to life!”

“We are super excited about this move and think it’s going to be a great location for us,” said Erin. When asked about what sort of services they will be offering, she commented, “So, we do regular UV tanning and we are the only tanning salon left within the city that has lay down beds, we also do spray tanning. We have two other businesses located within Allen Tan – Maracle Massage, and The New York Hair Guru, who in addition to doing hair also does waxing and eyelash extensions.”

Once again, we’re seeing a lot of interest in Black Rock by a wide array of businesses. It’s becoming a pretty hip place to be, with plenty of services, places to eat, drink, and grab coffee, and it’s right around the corner from the heralded Chandler Street.

It would be great to see more connectivity between Amherst Street and Grant Street – maybe Buffalo State will continue to infill some of its parking lots on the west side of Grant Street? That would certainly help to bridge the districts.

In the meantime, people are heading to Black Rock for everything from getting their bikes fixed to salon services. It’s a great time for the district. Does opportunity knock for you?

Allen Tan will be opening for business on October 1.
