As the weather turns cooler, and it becomes more difficult to plan fun outside activities for kids, consider some of the engaging activities and classes happening at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in October. Below are some classes to introduce children to the art of looking and creation, or plan a day with your family at the museum.
Art Classes for Children and Teens
Foster your child’s love of art with a range of art classes for ages 4–18 throughout the year. Art supplies are provided. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Scholarship opportunities are available.
Piece It Together: Adventures in Collage
(Ages 6–8)
Saturdays, October 13, 20, and 27, 2018, 10–11:30 am
$50 / $35 for Members (supplies included)
Learn the basics of collage inspired by the works of Romare Bearden and Tony Berlant featured in the special exhibition Giant Steps: Artists and the 1960s. Piece together fabric, magazine clippings, and found objects to make an artwork that tells your story.
Make it Big!
(Ages 9–11)

Have you ever wanted to make a really big painting, drawing, or sculpture? Take inspiration from the monumental artworks in our collection, and practice new techniques to create your own colossal works of art.
Pop Art Printmaking
(Ages 12–14)
Saturdays, October 13, 20, and 27, 2018, 1–3 pm
$50 / $35 for Members (supplies included)
Take inspiration from our current exhibition Giant Steps: Artists and the 1960s to explore the world of printmaking and Pop art. Learn to make multiples of your artwork that can be reproduced on paper, patches, and posters.
Observational Drawing
(Ages 15–17)
Saturdays, October 13, 20, and 27, 2018, 1–3 pm
$50 / $35 for Members (supplies included)
Learn the art of drawing from life using observational skills, live models, and the world around you as inspiration. Brush up on the fundamentals, like proportion and value; experiment with different techniques; and create from what you see. Works created during the class would make great additions to a growing portfolio.
