The local Yelp.com community is once again kicking off diversity month with their spectacular Yelp Without Borders event! Hosted by The International Institute of Buffalo, Yelp Is bringing together over a dozen local restaurants, breweries, and wineries that highlight the amazing array of culture, and diversity that can be found here in Buffalo.
The International Institute is an organization that has been serving the Buffalo Community since 1918, and works with the refugee populations in the region, supporting these new, and important members of our communities. Yelp’s goal is to highlight the work, and services that The International Institute performs, and raise money to support their efforts. This free, public event only requires a RSVP through your Yelp.com account, however donations will be encouraged at the door, and 100% of the proceeds from this event go to supporting The International Institute.
This is Yelp Buffalo’s 5th annual Yelp Without Borders event. This year’s event line-up includes some of Buffalo’s favorite Buffalo-born, and multi-cultural restaurants such as Teton Kitchen, Hali Boyz, Ashker’s Juice Bar, House of Hummus, Yey’s Cambodian, Durk Cuisine, and SATO Brewpub. Beer and wine sampling will be provided by Resurgence Brewery, Big Ditch Brewery, Midgard Winery, and SATO Brewpub. Paul Spitale, otherwise known as “DJ Rock” will be keeping the event lively spinning tunes throughout, and the amazing Caricature artist Jeremy Stock will be creating his popular renditions of event guests!
Yelp Buffalo’s Community Manager, Alex Levine, stated, “I would love for people to come out, and experience the beautiful space that the International Institute operates out of, while trying some new international cuisines, and learning how they can help support Buffalo’s growing refugee population. Mostly, we want people to have fun, try something new, and learn more about the International Institute.”
Levine noted some highlights to this year’s event, including a chance to meet Gita Tiwari and Sita Bista from the newly opened Druk Cuisine kitchen, where you can try Bhutan Cuisine, and Yey’s Cambodian will also be present sampling food before the opening of their new cafe on Main Street in University Heights. Smita Chutke from Smita’s Cooking Social will also be showcasing her signature Indian food made using homemade special blend of spices from scratch giving guests the lowdown on Indian spices.
As always, Yelp Without Borders showcases business owners from all walks of life, and provides a unique opportunity to sample a variety of cuisines from many cultures, while engaging with the people, and the communities that have helped make Buffalo a city that welcomes new good neighbors from around the world!
To RSVP you must be a Yelp.com member. RSVP’s can be made on their event page at yelp.com/events.
