WNYBAC to Host 6th Annual Buffalo BookFest

On Saturday, July 8, 2017, the Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) will host the 6th Annual Buffalo BookFest, a day-long festival dedicated to printing and the book arts. This event is free and open to the public, taking place inside both floors of the Book Arts Center, on Mohawk Street, and spilling into the adjacent parking lot–you won’t want to miss this festival! The 6th Annual Buffalo BookFest Artist’s Market will highlight WNY’s most talented craftspeople, artisans, and writers. They will welcome vendors from around the region as we celebrate the Upstate New York Wayzgoose-a gathering of printers from all over NYS & lovers of all things letterpress & book arts.

Buffalo BookFest special event highlights at WNYBAC:

• Steamroller printmaking all day Heavy Metal meets Big Wood! Watch as they turn a construction Steamroller into a printing press…turning hand-carved giant woodcut blocks into giant prints! Festivalgoers will have the chance to purchase these one of a kind massive prints and meet some of the artists.

• Schedule of Book Arts Demonstrations for all ages including – Bookmaking, Letterpress cards & posters, Screen Print t-shirts and posters, Papermaking, Printmaking for kids, and so, so much more! All Make & Take!

• Workshop Highlight: Screen Print a t-shirt…only a $1! Includes shirt! Or, bring your own shirt!

• Artist Market and Vendor Fair all day – Peruse through over 30+ Vendors specializing in book arts, printing, and handmade crafts. Guests can browse through a great selection of hand-printed items, antique printing supplies (*NEW), bookbinding supplies, paper, new books, and even local publications for sale in our air conditioned gallery.

NEW THIS YEAR: BookFest will feature a group dinner and after party at the newly renovated Barrel Factory in Buffalo’s Old First Ward! The Barrel Factory at 65 Vandalia St. in Buffalo’s First Ward, is home to Lakeward Spirits, a craft distillery. The after party takes place from 5:30-8:30pm and includes a buffet-style dinner, music by Eric Tyrone Crittenden-Jones, Declan Miers & more, an exhibition by six WNY artists including Harumo Sato, bobCollignon, Edreys Wajed, Mizin Shin, Peter Sowiski, & Julio Flores who will be leading an Adult Kite Making Demo! 21+ to attend.
