The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School (BuffSci) has announced that it is opening a second location at the former BPS #40, 89 Clare Street, on the city’s East Side. In order to accommodate an increase in demand, BuffSci will be also be adding a kindergarten and a 6th grade to its currently operational 5th grade and 7-12 school.
The acquisition of the former public school building means that an additional 200 students will be enrolled, bringing enrollment up to 640 children. Currently, the school (190 Franklin Street) has a waiting list of 242 children hoping to get in – the school already has 645 applications for the next school year. Part of the reason for the school’s popularity is its successful performance rates.
Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School is recognized in the National Rankings and earned a bronze medal (USNews).
An official announcement/celebration is scheduled to be held on Monday, June 26. Public officials including Councilman David Franczyk will be in attendance. The school is anticipating being open for the 2017-18 school year.
